Lipoplasty is the suction removal of fat to sculpture the figure. It is not meant as a form of weight loss, but as a body contouring procedure for those of ideal body weight. The procedure works well on diet and exercise resistant fat bulges in men and women. Time and repeated weight loss and gain may affect skin tone which is not correctable with liposuction. In fact, liposuction of these areas may only enhance the stretched skin. In these cases, alternative surgeries would be more beneficial.
Small incisions, usually within underwear lines, are made to insert the cannulas to suction out the fat. Dr. Deutsch utilizes the tumescent technique where a solution is injected prior to suctioning to divide the fat planes and reduce bleeding secondary to trauma from equipment. These incisions leave minimal scarring. Patients are placed in compression garments after surgery. The procedure is not associated with a lot of postoperative pain and patients are able to resume normal activities except for exercise immediately after surgery.
